EL PASO, Texas —

A wanted woman, featured on "Manhunt Monday" who was accused of abusing a child, was apprehended in Juarez before she surrendered herself to El Paso authorities, officials said.

Christina Avalos, 20, was charged with injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury in March 2010. Soon after, she was released on bond, but she missed a court hearing on June 15, 2012. A warrant for her arrest was issued on Aug. 14, 2012.

On Wednesday, Mexican authorities contacted the U.S. Marshals Service saying they had Avalos in custody and they believed that she was wanted in El Paso, officials said.

Avalos had encountered Juarez law enforcement officers, who recognized her from "Manhunt Monday" as a top 10 fugitive with the El Paso Police Department, officials said.

Avalos decided to leave Mexico and surrender herself to the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, officials said. She was taken into custody at the El Paso Del Norte Port of Entry and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
