Members of a car club in El Paso allege that a woman, who once belonged to the club, lied about having a baby girl and the infant's death all to scam people for money.
Members of Cohesion car club say an ex-member, Daisa Ramirez, allegedly made up a story about having a five month old infant all so that she would benefit from the a car show's donations.
"We took this girl'…the passing of the baby… as a truthful reason...she was just getting the money," said Albert Martinez.
KFOX14 News made several attempts to contact Ramirez but we have not heard back.
"We don't ask questions. We'll ask questions later. We're going to try to help you first," said Joey Estrada.
Estrada said there is more than one El Paso car club upset and disappointed that Ramirez would take money from the car show for her benefit.
Promotors at Cowtown Boots and the I-10 Flea Market also allege that Ramirez made up an infant's death and later admitted to it.
"A big percentage of what we gave her was cash," said Estrada.
Ramirez allegedly received $1,600 from Cohension alone. Other sources say it is estimated she received around $2,000.
Doubt about the infant's death set in said Estrada and Martinez when Ramirez could not give them a date for the baby's funeral service.
"When is the the service? We need to know so we can request the day off and support you," said Estrada.
Both car club members say Ramirez finally came clean this past Friday. According to a promoter at the Flea Market, Ramirez allegedly wanted to help a friend who had lost a child because she had lost a baby girl back in July.
According to Martinez, Ramirez said "I'm sorry this was just – all a made up issue" in a Facebook message to one of the car club members.
Car members all said they are getting ready take legal action. They want Ramirez to pay back the money and it will be donated to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.
