Updated: Woman accused of running over husband found guilty of murder

EL PASO, Texas —

A woman accused of running over her husband with her car and killing him was found guilty of murder Thursday.

Laura Juarez was given the maximum sentence and faced a prison sentence of 99 years and a $10,000 fine for the death of Salvador Juarez.

As KFOX14 previously reported, earlier this year Laura Juarez called police saying she woke up and found her husband not breathing. The case quickly turned into a homicide investigation.

First responders testified on Monday that Juarez had marks on her face, and she told them she had gotten in a fight with her husband the night before, after a night of drinking had gotten physical, she said. Officers testified Juarez told them they had gotten into a fight because she had "caught her husband talking to one of her friends."

Juarez said her husband had wandered over to the front gate of their Lower Valley apartment, when she found him; she picked him upand put him in her car, took him home and put him to bed. Officers said they overheard Juarez telling neighbors she had crashed into the front gate at their apartment with her car.

That's when officers checked Salvador's body and saw marks on his legs, shifting the investigation to a possible homicide.
