The wind blew in around midnight, knocking down trash bins in some neighborhoods.

"The wind is horrible, it's freezing,” said April Dominguez of west El Paso.

Strong gusts made driving conditions difficult on Mesa Street. "There's a little dip and my car was actually swerving side to side so I had to drive pretty slow," added Dominguez.

Soon after the wind came light rain showers across town. The TX-dot emergency operation center was activated with crews standing by, KFOX met up with crews around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

"This one is taking a little bit longer to come in than what we thought," said Gilbert Jordan with TXDot as he referred to the storm.

Finally at 2:45 a.m. the snow came down in far east El Paso near Montwood High School.

"People were expecting it to snow on Christmas actually, but I guess it showed up late," Charlie Herrera of far east El Paso said a bit surprised to see the snow overnight.

Jordan said Liquid deicer trucks were dispatched and focused throughout the morning on clearing the outside lanes of Interstate 10, Loop 375, and US 54. “We have our snow plows, those are pretty much on stand-by right now" added Jordan "So we ask motorist if you have to travel, the safest lanes we'll have open are going to be the right hand lanes and the on and off ramps."
