What Would El Pasoans Ask President Obama If They Had The Opportunity?

EL PASO, Texas —

President Barack Obama will be stopping in El Paso Tuesday morning to address the troops stationed at Fort Bliss, but many El Pasoans said they have some other things they'd like the president to address.

Air Force One will be landing at Biggs Army Airfield around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

"I think it will bolster the troops, and help them a little bit," said Stan Okies, of west El Paso.

The commander-in-chief is coming to the borderland to thank troops for their service in Iraq. He recently brought home several thousands troops from the combat zone, but some El Pasoans want the president to address some other concerns.

"We live by the border. It's right down the street," said Joe Puente of east El Paso.

Immigration reform is a topic many El Pasoans feel the president has neglected.

"That's what he said he was going to take care of, but it's been year and year and he hasn't done anything about it," said Harry Valdez, of central El Paso.

That’s what Okies wants the president to answer.

"Why he is not listening to the voice of the people," said Okies.

Some El Pasoans felt that even if he saw these concerns he wouldn't address them.

"He's more worried about other things right now," said Puente.

Like the soldiers, which one El Pasoan felt was fine, but wants to make sure that there is benefit to El Paso being home to these troops.

"Are any soldiers coming back from Iraq, are they going to be destined living here in Fort Bliss,” asked Orlando Mireles, of west El Paso. “That it will help the economy of El Paso."

The nation's leader is coming to El Paso just as his approval rating has slipped.

"He's not a miracle worker," said Mireles.

Some El Pasoans said it's important to remember, approve of what he's done during his presidency or not, his short visit will make an impact.

"El Paso is usually, nobody knows about it, the president coming here will get more publicity for the city,” said Valdez.
