Weekend Weathercaster/News Reporter

Are you ready for that next step in your career? KFOX14, a Cox Media Group station, is looking for a WEEKEND WEATHERCASTER/NEWS REPORTER. Excellent live skills are required for this position. The candidate for this job has to be good enough to fill-in for the chief meteorologist as well as on occasion, the primetime news anchor.

As a Weekend Weathercaster you`ll get to work with some of the world`s best weather equipment, including Baron`s VIPIR with Storm Tracking, street level mapping and photo imagery. KFOX14 is known for owning the weather story so we need someone who`s ready to have a spotlight on them, dependable about what`s currently happening and knowledgeable about what our community can expect next. As a Reporter, you`re expected to be live in the community every day, often with a story of your own enterprising. You need to be smooth on-air, engaging in your lives (no just standing there!) and be the kind of person who can find a good interview and story in an empty parking lot. You`ll also be working with the Texas AP ``Photography Station of the Year`` crew so be ready to work.

SUMMARY: Present the news and weather on the air following the format and instructions of the News Director, Executive Producer and/or other supervisors.

SALARY: Negotiable and confidential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Must be skilled and experienced in interviewing newsmakers and in gathering, writing and reporting the news. Must be familiar and proficient in the preparation of news scripts and the production techniques of tape editing. Must be able to deliver news stories live, in a confident and skilled manner. Must be able to prepare and deliver accurate weather forecasts in a clear and understandable manner, Must possess the ability to go on the air on a moment`s notice and deliver severe weather warnings in a clear and calm manner. May be assigned to prepare and assist in the production and airing of specials, documentaries and the production of the news program. Required to prepare and post stories and images on station website. Develop and maintain news sources throughout the community. Objective interviewing, editing, clear and unbiased writing.

The station requests that reporters make public appearances during off duty hours, and at all times represent KFOX14 in a positive and professional manner.

WORK HOURS: Usually 1pm-10pm Wed- Sunday but can vary depending on the news and weather conditions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor`s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university in Journalism or Broadcasting with a Minor in English preferred. Professional experience may be substituted for certain educational requirements. At least two years of commercial television reporting experience is recommended.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, interpret and clearly deliver the news in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and news stories in a concise, balanced manner free of bias, distortion or poor taste. Ability to speak and understand Spanish is preferred. Must have language skills to handle live reporting, interviewing and ad-lib situations from the field using ENG equipment in an orderly, professional manner.

OTHER SKILLS: As an on-air personality and journalist, must have that unique ability to communicate that creates for the viewer a feeling of involvement, sincerity, professionalism, authority, knowledge, enthusiasm and friendliness. Must be knowledgeable and well read about current events and people in the news.
