Webcam Technology Helps With Separation Anxiety At El Paso Day Care

EL PASO, Texas —

You can find child care facilities all across the borderland but only a few of them are equipped with webcam technology.

At Grammies Daycare and Learning Center, there are 16 webcams throughout the facility. "We heard about the technology in Austin, San Antonio and Houston. They all had it and we were the first ones to bring it to El Paso," said Nicholas Frescas, director at Grammies.

Frescas tells KFOX parents like the idea that at any time they can simply log onto their computer, no matter where they are and check on their kids.

Bill Apodaca and his wife have two children who stay at Grammies. Appodaca said, "It definitely gives you assurance that they are being taken care of. Plus, you can always tell your kids, daddy is watching you, so that is always kind of fun."

Apodaca adds, "It is just as easy as if I am in my office a couple of miles away or on the East Coast. I can log onto the Web site and you don't feel like you are so far away."

In fact, there are several parents who travel out of town and even grandparents who don't live in El Paso, who use the webcam system to help stay connected with their little ones.

One parent is even stationed in Iraq. "Usually it's reverse, the dad is deployed and the mother is here but this time the mom is deployed and she actually calls us directly from Iraq and we put her son up to the camera so she can see him from Iraq," said Frescas.
