FABENS, Texas —

A vigil was held for the 22-year-old woman killed in Sunday's hit-and-run accident.

Family and friends gathered at the site where Stephanie Avelar was hit and killed on North Loop Drive in Fabens.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. Sunday. Deputies said Avelar was already dead when they arrived at the scene.

Those who gathered at Monday night's vigil said Avelar will never be forgotten.

"This is in her memory, to keep her alive," said Jodie Gonzalez. "She's with us in spirit. She knows how much we love her, how much we miss her, her friends, her family, everybody she ever touched. She was an amazing person."

As KFOX14 previously reported, Avelar was struck by an unknown type of vehicle while she was walking on the shoulder of the roadway.

Special Traffic Investigators are looking for a vehicle with damage to the front end that was reported to have been seen traveling eastbound toward Fabens.
