Vases Stolen From Lower Valley Cemetery

EL PASO, Texas —

Families and loved ones who have laid to rest their dead at a Lower Valley cemetery have had vases at the grave sites stolen, a police officer said.

According to Ruben Garcia with the El Paso Police Department, bronze vases were stolen from Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Approximately 50 vases were taken between March 24 and March 28, Garcia said the assistant director of the cemetery told him.

The cemetery, at 401 S. Zaragoza, has 24-hour security, according to the assistant director.

More than 700 vases were stolen from Memory Gardens Cemetery in October 2010.

Police officials have told KFOX that they believe the majority of the vases are taken into Mexico to be sold for scrap metal. Each vase is estimated in value at $300 to $400 each.
