U.S. Border Patrol Chief Asks For Immigration Reform

EL PASO, Texas —

The chief of the U.S. Border Patrol's El Paso Sector said the key to curbing illegal immigration rests with Congress.

Chief Agent Victor Manjarrez Jr. said without comprehensive immigration reform, border patrol agents will continue to split their attention between "economic migrants," criminals, and potential terrorists.

He estimates about seven out of eight illegal immigrants are just looking for work.

Manjarrez also said the Border Patrol has encountered situations that lead agents to believe there is a terrorism nexus along the border but he wouldn't provide specific details.
