Update: Travelers Left Stranded By Greyhound Bus

EL PASO, Texas —

A group of people left behind by a greyhound bus with no ride, and its all because of a first- come-first-serve policy.

Most people in that group bought their tickets in advance, one woman up to a month in advance. When she and nine others--including a family with a baby-- tried to board, howerve, they were told the bus was full and they could get on the next bus leaving 4 a.m. The group of people was looking to be in Dallas by 9 a.m. Friday for graduations, meetings and a trip away for the Memorial Day weekend.

Instead, all 10 tried to get refunds, so they wouldn't miss those important events.

"We were unable to get a refund, and the supervisor here at that station told us that it was the Americanos' fault," said stranded passenger, Sandra Grimes.

Americano and Greyhound are affiliates so they both sell tickets. When the group spoke to Americano they said they called Greyhound an hour in advance and told them to stop selling tickets, but the group said that isn't what happened.

"Somebody can come off the street an hour before the bus leaves, grab a ticket, get in line ahead of you and that's who gets on the bus," said Margie Benton, who was also stranded.

Greyhound officials have responded apologizing for any inconvenience but sticking by their policy.

"AS reservations are not required for travel via greyhound, we recommend passengers arrive one to two hours prior to departure in order to ensure they receive a seat," said Bonnie Bastian of Greyhound Lines.

One passenger said this isn't the first time this has happened, and won't be the last.

"This happened once before, but because it was a Greyhound bus--the one with the greyhound the side--they sent another bus," said Benton.

Officials from Greyhound said they were not aware of any similar situations but would look into the accusations.

Unknowingly, every person on the bus had tickets with the letters “AAU” which means traveling on an Americanos bus; which doesn't pick up passengers even if they tickets were oversold.

"I'm not riding Greyhound again," said Grimes.

Around 8 this morning we got word from one of the passengers they were now stranded in Van Horn after the bus broke down. They will be there for two hours until a new bus can arrive.
