Update: Traffic Study Under Way For Tierra Mina Drive

EL PASO, Texas —

El Paso city officials have received a petition regarding a road in far east El Paso that residents said is too dangerous.

A resident called KFOX in September, frustrated about a dangerous curve in his neighborhood that he said drivers are taking too fast.

The curve is located on the 12700 block of Tierra Mina Drive. Resident Miguel Sotomayor Jr. has spoken to city officials about the problem, but he hasn’t received a response.

Sotomayor said he watches motorists speeding at the curve along Tierra Mina every day. He believes the problem gets worse when school is back in session.

Sotomayor showed KFOX a copy of a recent petition with 51 signatures, all residents wanting the city to do something. He said he already sent a petition to the city in October 2009. But city officials told KFOX in September they had no records of receiving one in the past and have yet to receive the latest petition.

City officials said there have been crashes in other stretches of Tierra Mina Drive, but representative Eddie Holguin said in September there had been none at the curve in question.

Officials will now proceed to do a traffic study in the area, but there is no word on when it will happen.

City officials said if you have a problem in your neighborhood, you can visit www.ci.el-paso.tx.us to file a complaint.
