Update: Teen Ejected From Vehicle In Fabens Rollover

FABENS, Texas —

El Paso County Sheriff's deputies said rainy conditions were a factor in a serious single-car accident in Fabens Sunday night.

The crash happened just after 10 p.m. on the 400 block of Southwest First Street and Hunt Drive in Fabens.

Authorities said a 2003 Kia Rio driven by 19-year-old Eric Mota flipped over, landing in an irrigation canal. Deputies told KFOX a 15-year-old girl in the back seat was thrown out of the car and suffered a concussion and is recovering at University Medical Center from head injuries.

Both Mota and Denis Sosa, 17, the front passenger, were not seriously hurt.

The investigation conducted by Special Traffic Investigators unit revealed Mota was traveling northbound at the 200 block of South Fabens road approaching the 400 block of Southwest First Street when he approached a sharp curve and drove into the irrigation ditch.

Mota was issued a citation for exceeding a safe and prudent speed.
