EL PASO, Texas —

At 6 Strings Bar, a picture of Jovanna Flores and friends sat on a table surrounded by flowers. It serves as a reminder of better days at the bar where she worked. Friends said the picture and memory are all that's left to cherish.

"It's so sad that in life, we lose the ones we love. She's so young to be gone," said David Morris.

El Paso police confirm that two women, a 20-year-old and a 58 year-old, were found dead inside a home in the 11000 block of Pratt Avenue in East El Paso Friday. Friends said the 20-year-old victim is Flores and that she attended Montwood High School and graduated in 2008.

Officers said a third person was taken to the hospital but officers did not disclose the victim’s injuries. Officers said they are withholding information so that they do not jeopardize the investigation.

A person of interest is in custody but no arrrests have been made, according to investigators.

"Our prayers go out to the family and I hope the crime will be solved soon," said Birgit Heidelberger. Heidelberger said her daughter attended school with Flores.

Friends said they will remember her for being friendly and outgoing.

"She would bring a smile to your face," said David Lopez.

Neighbors recalled seeing her just before the murder.

"I was the last one that saw her alive with her little dog," said David Quintana, a neighbor how lives next door to the victims. "She told me she was going home because her mother was expecting her. It made me feel real terrible that she had just gotten murdered, and a half an hour had gone by."

The crime shook up the neighborhood.

“I just looked out and saw red tape, so I knew it was something bad,” said Melissa Meza, who lives near the crime scene.

Family members on the scene cried and consoled each other. One neighbor who did not want to go on camera said she heard a scream then saw a girl run out of the house with blood on her.

KFOX media partners the El Paso Times reported that the victims were mother and daughter and that they had been stabbed to death.

“We just wanted to send our condolences to the family and we just wanted to say sorry for their loss,” Meza said.

Some people who lived on Pratt Avenue were only allowed to go to their homes if they showed identification; others who lived too close were turned away while police conducted their investigation.

The homicide has some people in the neighborhood concerned about their safety.

“Yes, I feel concerned,” said Gabby Alvarez.
