EL PASO, Texas —

Fire officials said fire crews responded to the 9600 block of Kenworthy Street at around 10 a.m. Saturday.

The call was in reference to an 83-year-old woman who suffered serious first and second degree burns to 20% of her arms and face.

Fire investigators said the woman was in a wheel chair smoking outside the Ambrosio Guillen Veteran's Home, when she caught her clothes on fire.

According to fire officials, the nurses wheel the woman out daily to smoke.

The woman was first transported to University Medical Center, and then transferred to the Lubbock Burn Center.
