On Wednesday around 10:15 p.m., El Paso County sheriff spokeswoman Angelica Becerra said, five people forced their way into a home on in the 800 block of Lakewood in Canutillo, Texas.

Sheriff's deputies said a 37-year-old man was assaulted by the armed intruders. They said the victim was stabbed in the inner thigh after the attackers had beaten him with closed fists.

Before the intruders fled, one of them held a knife to the victim's throat while another stole his car keys from his pocket, said Becerra.

When the attackers got outside, Becerra said, they tried forcing the man into his trunk, but failed when he resisted.

One of the attackers left with the victims pearl-white 2004 Cadillac CTS, while the others fled in the vehicle they arrived in, officials said.

The victim was treated by emergency crews. He was able to identify one of the suspects as a Barrio Azteca gang member, deputies said. Law enforcement officials have said that Barrio Azteca gang members have been known to be connected to Juarez cartels.

An investigation is ongoing.
