The Las Cruces Advisory Council met Wednesday for the first time.
The council is made up of several area residents selected by postal officials to serve as liasons between the community and the U.S. Postal Service.
"I think it was a great move, and I think it was a move we should've had a long time ago," said advisory council member James Parker.
According to a spokesman, the council was organized after various complaints about the local delivery service.
Along with forming the council, postal officials have also made internal changes, including getting rid of top management officials, to help provide better mail service.
