TxDOT Officials Ask Drivers To Get A P.A.S.S. For The Fourth

By Danielle Chavira

EL PASO, Texas —

Texas Department of Transportation officials said they joined with more than 200 law enforcement agencies to fight drunken driving over the Fourth of July weekend.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showed that over the past 25 years, on average, half of the deadly traffic crashes over the Fourth of July weekend are alcohol related, said TxDOT officials.

This year, TxDOT officials asked Texans planning on drinking to get a P.A.S.S, or Person Appointed to Stay Sober.

Officials also said increased presence of law enforcement officials during the Fourth of July weekend can be expected as part of an aggressive crackdown on impaired drivers.

Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement agencies throughout Texas received federal grants to increase enforcement efforts over the holiday weekend.
