TxDot Crews Monitor Road Conditions

As snow continues to fall around the borderland, TxDOT crews monitor roads and highways.

TxDot has a de-icing plan in place in order to prevent black ice from forming and keeping the roads safe.

"People don't slow down... tail gating still. They got to learn to relax and drive how they're supposed to," said Paul Lagunas from East El Paso.

This wintery weather doesn't help the situation. And it's a concern for TxDot officials.

"I understand it's going to be colder tonight than it was this morning. So if there is any moisture, there is going to be a big threat," said Gilbert Jordan with TxDOT.

The big threat has prompted the city's department of transportation and TxDot to implement a de-icing plan to keep the roadways safe. TxDot officials say they'll have crews ready with de-icing equipment and vehicles as they monitor the roads.

"The key is going to be fog. If we get fog in the morning with below freezing temperatures, we will have black ice and we will be monioring that," said Jordan.

Officials ask the community to limit driving especially in inclement weather.

"Tomorrow morning we'll be vigilant and have crews out if we need to," said Jordan.
