Two Weekend Crashes In Dona Ana County Prove Deadly

Las Cruces police said a man faces charges of vehicular homicide after reportedly killing another man on a motorcycle. The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday when a motorcycle driven by 59-year-old David Florez smashed into an SUV at the intersection of Avenida de Mesilla and Valley Drive. Authorities said they believe the driver of the SUV, 56-year-old Robert Soto, was drunk at the time. Paramedics pronounced Florez dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet. Another man died in a traffic crash early Sunday morning. It happened when a pickup truck traveled through the intersection of O'Hara Road and Dairy Farm Road and into a drainage ditch. Authorities haven't released the identity of the male driver who was killed. They said they believe he was speeding at the time of the crash.
