Triple Killer Loses Federal Appeal

EL PASO, Texas —

A Mexican national convicted of the execution-style slayings of three El Paso teenagers nearly twelve years ago has lost a federal court appeal.

The denial brings Ignacio Gomez closer to his own execution.

He is on death row for the November 1996 murders of 16-year-old twin brothers Michael and Matthew Meredith and 19-year-old Toby Hathaway Jr.

The three were gunned down in apparent retaliation for some broken windows at the home of Gomez’s mother.

Gomez argued he was unconstitutionally deprived of his right to legal assistance from the Mexican consulate under an international treaty.
