Transmountain Rollover

July 31, 2006 —

El Paso Police said heavy rain on Transmountain Road contributed to a one-vehicle accident.

Investigators said it happened late Monday morning when an SUV apparently began hydro-planing on the highway, causing the driver to lose control of the truck, which then rolled over multiple times.

"I just started sliding, doing 360 after 360, next thing I know I'm in the dirt. It just started rolling about three times. My only intention was, when my truck finally stopped rolling was to just get out of my truck as fast as I could," said David McCoy.

Fortunately, he was wearing his seatbelt and was not seriously injured.

The heavy rain and thick fog also led the Texas Department of Transporation to close Transmountain Road at about 11 a.m. Monday.

The transportation department re-opened the road a little over five hours later at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.
