Currently the El Paso Water Utilities has eight water and storm projects underway around the city. The project details are provided by EPWU and below each I have included the area of town and streets that crews will be working on or near. Keep in mind while EPWU crews are doing maintenance and improvements in these areas it can affect traffic. Make sure to always follow detours in place, exercise caution, slow down and keep an eye out for crew members. Any street closures will be posted above as traffic alerts.
Mesa Street 24-inch Water Line Replacement *Westside- Cloudview St. between Camille Dr. and Belvidere Drive
Start Date – August 12, 2011
Completion Date – January 9, 2012
Description – The project consists of installing approximately 9,800LF of 24-inch ductile iron pipe with its opportuneness. The waterline will convey water from Fred Miller Pump Station to Camille Rd. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Eastside Service Area 24-inch Water Line Project Construction Administration and RPR Services *Far Eastside - Near Pebble Hills and Zaragoza
Start Date – September 9, 2011
Completion Date – January 7, 2012
Description – El Paso Water Utilities has constructed several water transmission mains in the Eastside Planned Service Area. The mains are necessary to meet growth in recently annexed properties located east of Loop 375 and Zaragoza. This project consists of the installation of 12,000 linear feet of 24" waterline and associated valves.

Packed Tower Air Stripper at the Woods Reservoir *Eastside near Pebble Hills and Zaragoza
Start Date – October 14, 2011 Completion Date – April 11, 2012
Description –The Woods Reservoir has experienced elevated total trihalomethanes (TTHM) in the summertime due to the naturally occurring organics in surface water and hot ambient temperatures. The installation of a packed tower air stripper will remove TTHMs from the water to achieve compliance with the EPA.

Love Road Manhole & Sanitary Sewer Line Replacement Program Phase I
*Westside- Love Road between Jordan Lane and Shorty Lane
Start Date – November 10, 2011
Completion Date – January 6, 2012
Description - This project consists of the removal and replacement of 18 manholes and approximately 1,300 linear feet of sanitary sewer line. The 18" sewer line currently in place was installed in the 1950's and lined in the 1970's. Some of the sewer line is sagging due to ground water movement and needs to be replaced. The manholes are either brick or uncoated concrete and are deteriorating, due to corrosion from hydrogen sulfide. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Rouse Street Force Main Rehabilitation Phase IV *Northeast
Start Date – October 14, 2011
Completion Date – February 11, 2012
Description – The project consists of installing approximately 4,240LF of 30-inch PVC sanitary sewer force main pipe with its opportuneness. The force main will start at Grouse lift station on Railroad Drive and run behind the Warehouses fronting Railroad Dr. to connect 4,240LF north of the Lift Station. The force main transports sanitary sewer from Grouse lift station to Fred Hervey Water Reclamation Plant. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Northeast Channel No. 2 Phase II - Bid SW72-10
*Northeast- McCombs to Patriot Freeway ( US54)

Description - This is a stormwater project identified in the City of El Paso Stormwater Master Plan to address flooding and erosion damage along Northeast Channel No. 2. This channel is an existing earthen channel that conveys runoff from the Franklin Mountains to Northeast Channel No. 1. This project will provide improvements to the channel in terms of re-grading, concrete lining, channelizing and other improvements to convey flood water to downstream ponds without any impact to public and private property. The installation of 8-ft by 7-ft culverts along Junction Drive, the concrete lining of NE Channel No. 2 between Kenworthy and Rushing, installation of concrete rip-rap on NE Channel No. 2 south of NE Channel No. 1, and the enlarging of the undersized channel crossings at Sun Valley and McCombs.

Chihuahuita Stormwater System & Pump Station Improvements SW 82-10

Completion Date - August 12, 2012
Description - The project consists of the construction of a new Stormwater Pump Station Facility within a confined site adjacent to the Canal Street Water Treatment Plant with deep excavations beyond 20-feet deep adjacent to adobe structures within the Chihuahuita Historic Neighborhood; approximately 408 lineal feet of storm water reinforced concrete pipe within Canal Street ranging in diameters from 18-inch to 48-inch; approximately 300 linear feet of 30-inch and 42-inch Cured-In-Place Pipe to be slip lined under railroad and IBWC property. This construction is designed to improve the stormwater drainage within the Chihuahuita neighborhood as well as improve protection from Rio Grande River flood flows.

Van Buren Dam Modifications Bid No. SW14-11

Completion Date - March 12, 2012
Description - Improvements to Van Buren Dam include (1) installation of a concrete spillway, (2) installation of a parapet wall (maximum height of 5 feet) around the top of the embankment; (3) plugging one of two existing 72-inch corrugated metal outflow pipes, (4) excavation of the southwest corner of the reservoir to add approximately 14 acre-feet of storage capacity, (5) and installation of stilling basins and lining the outflow channel to protect against erosion and reduce velocities of flood flows prior to discharge at Jefferson Avenue.
