Town of Anthony focusing on necessary street repairs

By Kandolite Flores

ANTHONY, Texas —

Anthony drivers will be dealing with more road work this fall.

Mayor Art Franco told KFOX14 some of the town's streets desperately need a makeover.

"We're looking at actually revamping a lot of our streets. We're looking to spend $1.5 million to redo most of our streets," he said.

Thanks to the Texas Community Development Block Grant program, streets near Anthony Middle School and Elementary will get the first face lift.

"Fourth Street it's a safety issue because the kids walk on the street right now. So we're looking at about a $300,000 project to put sidewalks and redo the street," said Franco.
Road work on Fourth and Magnolia streets is expected to begin anytime between the end of October and the start of November.

Franco said because the town is growing, it not only needs street repairs but new roads.

"Hopefully in the near future, we can put a road that can give more access to the people from Anthony Heights," he said.

He also added that he has asked the Texas Department of Transportation to look into possibly widening the bridge over the interstate to make more room for traffic.
