The third Sunland Park mayoral candidate speaks exclusively with KFOX14 about where he has been and why he hasn't publicized his campaign.

Jose Luis Hernandez, not to be mistaken with his opponent Gerardo Hernandez, told KFOX14 that he wants the public to know that he is on the March 6 ballot, too.

Jose Hernandez hasn't campaigned as much as his opponents and said that it was all because of money.

"At the end of my campaign, I didn't have enough funds to run it," Jose Hernandez said.

Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Salinas and Gerardo Hernandez have been taking up most of the spotlight when it comes to the race for the mayor of Sunland Park .

Salinas was arrested on extortion charges Saturday after Gerardo Hernandez was shown in a video with a topless woman.

KFOX14 asked Jose Hernandez why he didn't come forward immediately following the scandal involving his embattled opponents.

"That's why I'm here," Jose Hernandez said. "That's why I'm making this announcement."

Sunland Park is also dealing with a state investigation into possible voter fraud. The secretary of state is currently reviewing all of its financial records.

"We have a lot to fix in the city of Sunland Park but this is going to be done little by little," Jose Hernandez said. "If I get elected mayor, everything will be done accordingly."
