Texas Senator Says She'll Resign

TEXAS —

Texas U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison said she plans to resign from the Senate this fall to challenge fellow Gov. Rick Perry in 2010.

That sets the stage for what will be a crowded race to replace her.

Hutchison told a Dallas radio station Wednesday she'll quit the Senate in October or November to run against Perry in the March Republican primary.

She also repeated she would formally declare her candidacy for governor in August.
