Texans, Businesses Prepare For New Year's Bash

Reservations for restaurants and hotels are filling up quickly for the New Year’s celebrations and during these tough economic times, that's good news for businesses. Some have even offered more options at a lower cost.

This was a bumpy year for many people. "Yeah, 2009, it was real tough," said Luis Saenz of east El Paso.

"It was a little rough, especially in Odessa. We're tied to the oil business and it had its ups and downs this year,” added Judd Campbell from Midland. But, as the saying goes, out with the old, in with the new.

"I expect 2010 will be better for me -- work, school and everything," said Saenz.

Some Oklahoma Sooner fans KFOX talked to said they’re looking forward to ringing in the New Year in the Sun City.

"We want to see what the city has to offer and have a good time and enjoy it," Danny O’Connell of Dallas said.

Restaurants and hotels in El Paso and across the country know partygoers will spend more conservatively tonight. "Obviously the economy hasn't been so fantastic, so we're really trying to ring in the New Year and kick it off with a great start,” said DC Coast general manager Ryan McCarthy.

Local venues like The Garden at the Union Plaza District will offer a five-course meal at 6 p.m. for $65. Reservations for tables require a two-bottle minimum. But, for those on a budget, they've also got you covered. "We want to make sure that it's not just limited to the tables; we want to make sure we can get anybody who wants to come, obviously, for a $20 fee," said bar manager Chris Brown.

The Camino Real Hotel also has a New Year's Eve package for $70, where you can savor a good meal before dancing the night away in the ballroom.

Dominic's Italtian Restaurant at 6900 Montana Ave. near Airway Boulevard will have a live band; the cover is $35, includes champagne and hors d'oeuvres.

You can also head out to The Artisan Hotel on 325 N. Kansas St., where there will be no cover in the bar area but it is on a first come, first serve basis. Hors d'oeuvres and champagne are complimentary.
