Teens Blamed For A Series Of Brush Fires

EL PASO, Texas —

El Paso firefighters responded Tuesday night to reports of three different brush fires between 11 p.m. and midnight.

The first one was behind the Stardust Motel on Montana Avenue. Firefighters estimate 200 square feet of brush burned. They said the flames were never a threat to the building.

The second fire was reported on Edgemere Boulevard and Sioux Drive. Firefighters said the brush along the road had been set on fire and the flames came close to a utility pole.

The third brush fire was reported on Gateway East Boulevard and Airway Boulevard. A security guard for a hotel being built in that area said the flames almost reached the power lines.

"I’m sitting in my car and I hear some laughing. I look in my rearview mirror and see two males and a female. It looks like they’re having a good time. As they pass me though, I looked in my rearview because something caught my eye. This big flame," said John Williams.

Police located a juvenile female and a 19-year-old male walking near Hawkins Boulevard and detained them.

Police said another 19-year-old male took part in the fires, but was not located.

Police said they cannot charge the teens because there was no property damage caused by the fires.
