According to Las Cruces police, a 14-year-old boy was shot Friday night around 8:30 p.m. at the Field of Dreams where Onate High School's football team had a game.

Authorities said the teenager was flown to Thomason Hospital by an air ambulance, after receiving a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower left leg.

A police spokesman told KFOX the incident began in the parking lot, and is believed to be gang-related at this time.

Right now, police are on the lookout for two Hispanic males believed to have fled the scene.

In light of Friday's shooting at a crowded Las Cruces high school football game, many residents say they want more security at area games.

Las Cruces Police said the shooting, which occurred at the Field of Dreams and injured a 14-year-old teen appears to be gang related. Security with the Las Cruces Public School District said the incident was not a random act, instead an isolated incident.

A spokesperson also said the public was never in any danger. "Our games should be safe, they attract the right crowds. This is an unfortunate act of violence by a specific group or an individual or towards an individual. Those incidents are hard to control," said Todd Gregory, Security Coordinator.

Although Gregory said there were several security guards and police officers at Thursday's game, many residents said security needs to be increased to make the public feel safer.
