Teen Faces 24 Years In Prison

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

A court ruling Thursday has one Las Cruces teen facing up to 24 years in prison.

Las Cruces District Attorney Susana Martinez said District Judge Fernando Macias ruled Wednesday that 18-year-old Martin Leonel Nevarez will be tried as an adult for the July 2007 shooting death of 14-year-old Alberto Soto.

Nevarez, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, will be tried and sentenced as an adult.

There is no word yet on when the sentencing will take place.
