EL PASO COUNTY, Texas —

Dalia Lopez, the mother of Rafael Lopez, 25, told KFOX14 News no matter how Thursday night's SWAT situation ended, she just wanted her son to be alive.

Just after 9 p.m., her worst fears came true.

El Paso County sheriff's deputies said Lopez shot and killed himself.

The Sheriff's Office said deputies were executing a warrant when Rafael Lopez pulled out a gun and fired at them. Lopez barricaded himself inside of his Montana Vista home and fired four more times at officers, deputies said.

Dalia Lopez, with tears streaming down her face, said her son had a probation violation but was a sweet guy.

"Of course, he has some mistakes like we all do," Lopez said. "I want them to take him alive, not dead."

Neighbors told KFOX14 that bounty hunters have been after the man for awhile.
