State officials said Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino, Billy Crews in Santa Teresa and a SunMart in Dona Ana County all sold alcohol to an underage person.

KFOX called Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino officials on Monday, and they would not go on camera or explain the circumstances surrounding the incident. All they would say was this, in a written statement: "As a business, Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino provides the proper training, certification and the tools necessary to keep an event like this from happening. It's unfortunate this employee chose not to follow set policies and procedures," said Heath Battles, the marketing director for Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.

At Billy Crews liquor store in Santa Teresa, NM, the owner Billy Crews said his employee, who has since been fired, asked for an ID and despite it showing the girl to be younger than 21, he still gave her the alcohol.

"There is no excuse. My ex-employee now is facing a fine," Crews told KFOX.

Billy Crews is also facing a fine, plus having to shut down for at least a day. Crews said he was in Albuquerque when he heard about the sting.

"They had said they had done a sting down in this area on TV and I said, 'Oh, my employees are trained, they go to school, everything," he said.

So he was shocked when he showed up to work Monday morning.

"And I come back and this citation is laying on my desk, and it's going to cost me thousands of dollars," said Crews. "We don't condone any law breaking, selling to minors or intoxicated people."

Calls to SunMart's parent company went unreturned on Monday.
