Sunland Park, NM, Hires New Manager

SUNLAND PARK, N.M. —

Sunland Park has hired a former New Mexico Border Authority director as the new manager of the southern New Mexico community.

Andrew Moralez of Anthony, N.M., succeeds Jaime Aguilera, who resigned in late September.

The Sunland Park City Council voted Oct. 20 to confirm Moralez's hiring, and he started the job two days later.

He will earn about $95,000 annually under a three-year contract.

Moralez said he did not intend to seek the manager's job, but Sunland Park Mayor Martin Resendiz proposed the idea.

Moralez had been director of the border authority since May 2009.

Before then, he was director of constituent services for Gov. Bill Richardson.
