Residents may have to wait longer for a bus to arrive under a new summer schedule.

Lately, bus riders have been arriving to the Sun Metro bus stop prepared to wait, with umbrellas and water in hand.

"It is hot; just imagine waiting out here in the sun for an hour a day. And if you miss that bus, you have to wait another hour. It's bad," Kevin Sauls from North East El Paso.

"Lately, they are getting here late. I have waited up to two hours for a bus to get to my job," said Cesar Montanez from Central El Paso.

Montanez said the bus has been so late getting him to work that he won't take it anymore because he worries he may lose his job.

"If I knew the bus would get there on time, I would take it, but since I know it won't I will just get a ride," Montanez said.

This is why Sun Metro has decided to scale back this summer, cutting the number of buses that will be on traveling on certain routes.

"What we have done is try to ensure that these adjustments are made throughout the system, that it isn't all just in one geographic area," said Elizabeth VanLauwe, assistant director of Sun Metro.

This new summer schedule by Sun Metro means buses will not be coming as frequently on certain routes as they used to. But, Sun Metro said it is doing this because buses will then be able to arrive on time.

"So, we may have a little longer wait at certain times of the day, or between certain trips, but if the bus is going to be there, it should be there," said VanLauwe.

And while this may mean longer waits in the heat for riders, Sun Metro believes it may bring peace of mind, knowing at least your bus will arrive on time.
