As more school walkouts are expected Friday to protest immigration reform, school officials say students could face repercussions if they participate.
School districts throughout the El Paso area will mark their students truant if they walk out of class.
Student protesters held a second day of school walkouts Thursday in opposition to proposed immigration reforms.
"I think there's always been talk since all of this started, and there has been talk about walkouts daily. We're trying to keep tabs on each of those discussions, and again the district is having dialogue and discussion on how they want to handle the whole situation," said Margaret Gallardo, spokeswoman for the El Paso School District.
But some parents say, enough talk already.
"I drop my daughter off here, I expect her to stay here... Them walking down the street and protesting that... they are not learning anything," said Cindy Duncan, a parent.
Gallardo told KFOX the administration does not condone the walkouts, but instead of disciplining the hundreds of students, it is looking at a constructive way of teaching these kids a lesson.
Student protesters will be considered truant in the El Paso district as well as the Ysleta and Socorro districts.
The Ysleta district, however, is going a step further in calling every parent in the district to notify him or her of the potential truancy.
A representative with the Socorro district said each student with an unexcused absent will have a parent conference.
The only thing certain in the El Paso School District is that its students will get an unexcused absence.
