Strong Winds Cause Apartment Fire

EL PASO, Texas —

Two Central El Paso families had to evacuate after a fire started at their apartments.

Red Cross officials said a camper was sitting on top of the carport when a gust of wind pushed it against an electric wire, which sparked the fire.

They said they are helping one family with five children and another with two children.

Firefighters deemed the structure unlivable.

Francisco Ruelas, a Red Cross volunteer, said, "Well, they didn't want to move. They're afraid that someone will break in, but they can come check it out later on, until everything is settled down."

No one was hurt in the fire.
