Streets Closed To Residents For Upcoming Holiday

EL PASO, Texas —

East Montana Vista residents who petitioned to close three streets in their neighborhood to the public on the Fourth of July got their way and then some Monday.

County commissioners voted unanimously to close not just Flager, Krag and Suwamee, but all streets that lead to residential areas.

They want to prevent people from setting off fireworks and leaving their trash behind.

"We're going to determine what streets, what time and figure out what we're going to do to protect the residents that live on those streets," said Jack Waite with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department.

The person managing the two Mr. W Factory Outlet fireworks stands in the area was notified Monday about the Fourth of July street closure.

He said he's going to appeal and worries his business will suffer.
