Stormwater Petition Makes It To City Hall

A petition drive to repeal the way the city of El Paso governs stormwater fees has finally made it to City Hall.

A group of El Paso businesspeople and homeowners brought its petitions to the city clerk's office late Thursday afternoon.

The petition calls for City Council to reconsider its decision giving the Public Service Board control of the stormwater fee and return that contol to council itself. If council refuses to take back control of the stormwater fee, then the group said it will launch a second petition drive to put the issue before El Paso voters next spring.

The petition organizer said he has collected more than 5,000 signatures and only about 2,300 are needed to bring the issue back before City Council.
