The stoplights at Darrington Road and Eastlake Boulevard in Horizon City Texas were broken from July 29 to Aug. 10.

People complained about what they called a dangerous intersection on the KFOX Facebook page.

Thursday, Horizon City officials told KFOX that the control box at that intersection had been damaged in a car accident. The officials said they'd tried to repair the box but could not. The officials said they were told that ordering the box would take a couple of weeks, so they asked the Texas Department of Transportation for help.

Friday, KFOX crews found work crews at the intersection who said they had just installed a TxDOT control box. The stoplights were working at that time.

Cecy Ortiz, a viewer who contacted KFOX, said that Horizon City should have been more prepared for this situation.

"I think they should be (prepared)," Ortiz said. "There's a lot of car accidents all of the time and sometimes they run into the poles or the control boxes. So why not be prepared? Why do we have to suffer for something that they should be doing?"

Ortiz said she's had many near-misses with other vehicles at that intersection since the lights have been broken. She said it's lucky that no one has been seriously injured during that time.

Horizon officials said they have kept either an officer or a crossing guard at that intersection during peak times each day.
