SOCORRO, Texas —

Five Socorro police officials have been arrested in an investigation by the District Attorney's Office and Texas state troopers.

About 15 state troopers arrived at the police station to carry out search warrants and make arrests, city spokesman David Garcia said.

According to El Paso County Jail records, Lt. Joe Alvarez, Sgt. Refugio Orta, and Officers Israel Delgado and Javier Varela have been arrested on charges of official oppression or abusing their power.

It's not yet known what the charges stem from.

Delgado and Varela have also been charged with aggravated perjury and tampering with governmental records.

Delgado was released on $15,000 bond.

Raul Huerta, a dispatcher with Socorro police, was also arrested and is in the custody of Immigration Customs Enforcement on a charge of transporting marijuana.

Alvarez, Orta and Delgado are still in jail with bail set at $250,000.
