Starved dogs found feeding off dead dogs

EL PASO, Texas —

Dogs feeding off of other dead dogs and reported to be in bad condition were seized by animal control officers. The dogs' owner, a Montana Vista resident, was placed under arrest on suspicion of animal cruelty. 

On Saturday, El Paso County Sheriff's deputies went out to the 15100 block of Gwendolyn on a tip they received.

Deputies said they witnessed dogs fight and feeding off of other dead dogs on the property.

An investigation revealed that Victor Espeleta-Hernandez, 48, claimed to be the owner of 11 dogs.

The dogs, according to deputies, had no food or water.

Sheriff's Office Animal Control arrived and seized the 11 dogs that were considered to be endangered if left behind, said deputies.

After Espeleta voluntarily surrendered, the dogs he was arrested.

Espeleta posted bond and was released early Sunday morning.
