"It is about 30 percent less than last year," Arraza told KFOX.

Arraza said people are choosing spring break vacations closer to home, or never leaving in the first place, but that has opened up some spectacular deals.

"We have very good specials to the beach destinations in Mexico like Cancun, Acapulco," he said.

Try $400 to Cancun or $325 to Acapulco, and if you want to stay stateside, there are some good deals too.

"We have Florida for $398, one week, including air, hotel and car rental," said Arraza.

UTEP student Robert Canales is heading to Puerto Penasco for spring break.

"The economy right now, is kind of down. As college students we feel it pretty bad," Canales told KFOX.

He chose the west Mexico destination for the price.

"Split it between seven to eight people, that comes out to $150 each plus like food costs and other types of costs that might be involved in that trip," he said.

Canales hopes it will be a wild vacation but admits the economy and drug violence in Mexico might keep spring breakers away. Yet he feels safe south of the border.

"The crime rate is high, but if you are not really involved in any of that, then I don't think you should worry that much," said Canales.

Arraza believes that most of the violence is in border towns like Juarez, and that the beach destinations should be safer.
