Speeding car nearly crashes into a woman's home

Neighbors in one northeast El Paso neighborhood are glad two elderly women were not hurt after a car almost crashed into their home.

Neighbors say they heard a halting screech and a loud bang, before coming outside to see what happened.

"I came right outside because my first instinct was they hit the cars again," said Laura Nungaray, who lives three houses down from the woman's home.

This time it was her neighbors who were hit, which she says could have been much worse.

"It was actually kind of a miracle, said Numara, "There are three dogs and the two old ladies that were both out of the yard just moments before.

Seventy-nine-year old Yolanda Blanco lives in the corner of Mt. Everest Drive and Hercules Avenue where the hatchback landed right in front of her yard.

She had been watering her plants just minutes before the accident, when she stepped inside her home, and heard a loud crash.

"We heard a big noise we were standing near the door and I saw a lot of dust," said Blanco.

Police told KFOX 14 a 19-year-old man was speeding east bound on Hercules Avenue driving on the wrong side of the road when he lost control and hit the rock until finally hitting the fence next to her home.

"It looked like a piece of paper got crumbled up," said Nungaray after seeing the car when she went outside.

Neighbors tell us they're glad Blanco wasn't hurt because she is always out in the mornings watering her plants.

Nungaray says they've tried to get police to help with the drivers racing, but when they show up, they have already left.

"Not that long ago my brother was driving down the street and he got clipped by a van that was going through. Nobody even stopped," said Nungaray.

Nungaray also tells me her family said her family's cars have been hit four times in the last several.

"My major concern is that we have kids that go up and down this street," said Nungaray.

The driver wasn't seriously hurt, and was taken to University Medical with minor injuries.

Police haven't said if he will be cited or face any charges.
