Sophia Martinez's Mom Says Killer's Execution Will Be 'Just' End

EL PASO, Texas —

The family of a teen who was killed 10 years ago speaks to KFOX about the killer’s execution. William Josef Berkley will be put to death on April 22.

Berkley was convicted of killing Sophia Martinez, 18, in March of 2000.

He shot Martinez at an east side ATM then took her to a remote part of northeast El Paso, raped her, then shot her again.

Her mother says she's been preparing for this for some time.

"It is something that is going to end justly, but emotionally it’s still going to be the same because the pain of having lost Sophia still stays with us," said Lourdes Licerio.

Licerio said her family was able to get through the past 10 years with their faith in God.

Licerio said she and her oldest daughter will make the trip to Huntsville to witness Berkley's execution.
