It is a problem that KFOX has been reporting over the last few weeks - slow mail delivery. Now, the Post Office says they are trying to do something about it.

The Post Office, by way of a postcard, is telling some of its customers that they are making a serious effort to deal with the recent problems, and that is a welcome sign for many El Pasoans.

Some say getting their mail has been as good as ever.

Lauren Matthews, West El Paso said, "Our mailman has been pretty good about it. He has tracked me down as I was leaving, said I had something that didn't fit in the box on occasion, and things like that, so I'm pretty happy with it."

Others said there is still a serious problem.

West El Paso resident Dahlia Cano said her mother's mail is showing up as much as a week or two weeks late.

"They are constantly wondering if they are going to get their mail," Cano said. "They want to get their mail, and then sometimes mail that they wanted to receive a week ago, they get two weeks later, because they don't get their mail."

And she's not the only one. Daniel Richards, also of West El Paso, said he missed a very important letter.

"I did have an experience where I was supposed to receive a jury notice, and I didn't receive it on time, and it was like due the day that I got it," Richards said.

Now the postal service is trying to do something about it. Many El Pasoans are finding post cards in their mailbox, explaining that in the coming weeks, someone will join your letter carrier in an effort to find the problem areas.

The card describes that, by inspecting routes, they will find the areas with unusually high mail volumes and then make improvements. Many think that's a good idea.

Richards said, "If they weren't going to do that, then we would definitely have a problem."

Lauren Matthews, of West El Paso, said, "If they are having problems now, when all those troops come in for Fort Bliss, it's going to really hit them hard. They need to start gearing up now for that."
