EL PASO, Texas —
The Socorro Activities Center and four Socorro Independent School District schools are going green by installing artificial turf.
On Tuesday night, board members unanimously approved $2.8 million for the football field alternative.
Board members said turf is more affordable to maintain.
Officials also said there are fewer injuries with artificial turf.
The schools chosen to turf are Montwood, El Dorado, Americas and Socorro High School.
The project is set to begin in February and is expected to be complete in August.
