City council members in the city of Socorro will meet on Saturday afternoon to propose holding a general election in May-- the last time one was held was in May of 2011.

However, there is a possibility that council members will no longer represent the city of Socorro by this May. Council members may soon face removal and fines because of a petition filed by El Paso's District Attorney Jaime Esparza.

The Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has found that Socorro violated election laws by extending their time in office. Council members extended their terms back in December of 2011. Their next scheduled election was for November 2013.
