Snowstorms Create Chaos

December 30, 2006 —

The Borderland has seen cloudy, cold weather and even some snow flurries over the past couple of days.

However, it's nothing like the wicked weather that's pounding other parts of our region.

Snow and ice have closed many highways across New Mexico. In Texas, more snow, rain and tornados are causing all kinds of problems.

Janna Bergquist from Los Alamos, N.M. told KFOX, "I was supposed to spend New Year's with my family in Los Alamos and of course, Albuquerque's shut down. Then I was diverted to Midland, Tx. where I spent the night there and then got on a flight here to El Paso, hoping to make it to Albuquerque, but then that was canceled."

An already snowed in Denver received more snow on Saturday.

West El Paso resident Lafone Leeper was able to make it back safety from Denver. Leeper said, "You couldn't get outside the door. It was claustrophobic. You had to stay inside. You couldn't go outside to get a coke. You couldn't go out and go shopping. When I left it was 16 degrees there."

The snow also continues to fall hard in New Mexico. Major highways like I-40 and I-25 have been closing and reopening on a constant basis.
