EL PASO, Texas —

A strong winter storm has moved into El Paso forcing Texas Department of Transportation authorities to close down Trans Mountain because of snow.

TXDOT officials said they closed down Trans Mountian at around 11:30 a.m. Monday after snow fell over the mountain overnight.

"We come from Ruidoso and it's cold up there too, but I love it it,” said Maryann Wright.

But the snow that she liked to see comes at a price. She and her husband planned on driving over Trans Mountain, but signs reading “road closed” forced them to take another route.

“Uh, oh, then I'm going to have to take the long way around,” said Wright. .

At about 12:40 p.m. the light rain-snow mix in Northeast El Paso got heavier. And an hour later it started coming down in big chunks and Diana and Railroad.

KFOX crew members who were driving in the snow estimated that visibility was down to about a mile.

While many were excited about the snow, KFOX asked drivers what it was like to drive in the white stuff. Drivers said they noticed big trucks going a little too fast.
