Snow Falls, Makes Roads Slick

EL PASO, Texas —

Large flakes of snow fell from the sky Wednesday night, transforming the borderland into a winter wonderland in the fall.

"It is cold," said Robert Weiler, of northeast El Paso. "I'm not going to lie."

But the chill in the air failed to faze Barak Holt, who walked comfortably outside in shorts and a T-shirt.

"I'm kind of used to it. I'm from up north actually," said Holt.

The snow blanketed the Franklin Mountains, but melted elsewhere, making roads slick.

The cold and wet conditions had more people than usual seeking shelter at the Rescue Mission of El Paso. As many as 30 people signed in to spend Wednesday night, but there was room for nearly 100 more.

"We don't want anybody to stay out there and suffering in the cold weather," said Juan Manual Olivas, of Rescue Mission of El Paso. "Anybody that needs some help or something, feel free to come over here."
